Humilitas | matheuspires

Em ‘Humilitas’, observamos o processo de degelo de quatro letras de gelo que formam a palavra ‘casa’ e que foram expostas ao sol de uma tarde. Interesso-me pelo conteúdo simbólico denotado pela palavra, sobretudo, na observância do contexto da pandemia de Covid19 e as medidas restritivas e de e distanciamento social para a contenção do vírus. O título do trabalho faz menção à raiz etimológica da palavra humilhação, que, como mencionado por Éric Dardel, remete ao abatimento do homem contra a terra (humus). A instalação e o vídeo compõem um corpo de trabalhos baseados no gesto poético da caminhada e no confronto das cercanias em que habito, neste conturbado período. Amparado na riqueza simbólica do trajeto entre os bairros Santa Genoveva, Guanabara e Jaó, em Goiânia, investiguei a estetização da política e busquei pensar acerca da crise global e a impossibilidade de deslocamento. Uma versão do vídeo integrou a chamada aberta da Mostra de Videoarte da 14 ̊ Bienal de Curitiba. A íntegra do vídeo foi exibida na mostra Coordenadas Confinadas e no S Festival.

In ‘Humilitas’ we observe the melting process of four ice letters that form the word ‘casa’ (home). They were exposed to an afternoon sun. I am interested in exploring the symbolic content denoted by the word, mainly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictive and social distancing measures to contain the virus. The title of the work mentions the Latin etymological root of the word humiliation, in dialogue with an image of poetic dimension of a combatant who seeks refuge in the soil (humus) by the French geographer Éric Dardel. The installation and the video are parts of a body of work based on the poetic gesture of walking and confronting the surroundings of my home, in this troubled period. Supported by the symbolic richness of a daily traveled journey, between the neighborhoods of Santa Genoveva, Guanabara and Jaó, in Goiânia, I investigated the aestheticization of politics and thought about the global crisis and the impossibility of displacement. A version of the video was part of the open call of the ‘Videoarte Show’ at the 14th Bienal de Curitiba. The entire video was shown at Coordenadas Confinadas and at the S Festival.
